new mech pump? it did get fitted to rub on the cam?
if not, it is useless ...
Hey bud, what do you mean run on the cam? Is there a correct way to install the machanical pump, I just thought you just pull the old one out and wack the new one in. Please tell me I’m wrong as this could be the problem all along.

you can wack a new pump in ....
and have the pump bellows arm not seated or rubbing on the camshaft top hat
do that.. the pump is useless. It must rub against the offset hat

when you install the pump, hold the pump arm up
and make sure it goes on / meets the camshaft hat
otherwise the pump does nothing.... it won't pump

ps.. make sure you have a V8 pump with a LONG pump arm
6cyl ones look the same except the pump arm is short
This is listed on fleabay as a V8 pump.. it is not

@ Smitty- should a spacer block be used when installing a V8 pump? I have always used the spacer block (since they always came with the replacement) but never knew what they were for. One time an auto elec replaced mine (car was in for electrical work and the pump went while at the shop) and he replaced the pump without the spacer block, the car has been running fine for fives years now without it. Do you know what the spacer block does, is for?
