so normally my VR ute is excellent on fuel, but today i changed my fuel filter and went out and its chewing fuel like crazy i used half a tank of fuel on a trip that was only half hour each way. Last week i changed my spark plugs, and oil etc and had no problem until today when i changed the filter...any ideas what could be causing this.

Judging by what you said ^^^, you probably haven't hooked up your fuel filter properly. Get under the car and check for fuel leaks. Did you install the correct way????

In a sense you answered your own question, check for leaks where you replaced the filter while the engine is running.
