I have a 2008 Omega and just recently the temperature gauge goes all the way to hot, then engine light comes on then it drops back down after a couple of minutes.
Ive pulled over lifted the bonnet & the engine doesnt feel hot at all.
Also, the fan is constantly going & even when i stop the car it keeps going & takes about 10mins to stop, sometimes longer.
Can someone tell me what the problem might be?
Thanks.

Sounds like an air lock in the cooling system.

Has anything been done to it recently? Coolant flush, water pump etc?

could be either- both have same symptoms (except sticky thermostat also causes rough idle while car is warming up).

one of my previous cars had a sticky thermostat, and another car had an air pocket in one of the hoses that needed gentle massage to get it out.... poor baby had gas :).
i'd place my bet on an air bubble though.

i dont if this fix will work for the commodore, but the way I got the air bubble out of a previous car was to:

a) car is stone cold (like overnight).
b) take off radiator cap
c) start up car and then gently squeeze the rubber water hoses, starting from the bottom of the engine bay and working up, trying to get the air to the top.
d) as the car begins to warm up and youve been squeezing for a bit, you should see/hear bubbles coming up at radiator you know youve got it done.
e) dont do it for too long though. once car starts getting a little hotter, thatcap needs to go back on.

like I said, dont know if this will work for the commodore- but it worked on previous cars.
