Okay pop quiz for you all;

What component specifically and technically wears - when a transmission takes ages to shift from P to D,3,2,1 when cold?

- googling comes up with "worn transmission" / "fu*&%$" etc

Vp series 2
ok more info.
is the oil burnt does it shift ok when hot
are the shifts rough.

if it shifts ok and does not slip when warm i would say the seals have hardened and let fluid past untill they warm up. so rebuild time.

Shifts fine (as in normal) when Hot, new Oil. Old oil wasn't too bad (not burnt).

Shifts are a little rough when cold, when she decides to shift out of 1st.

The seals as in... clutch packs/etc?

Thanks mate

take 2-5 min and ring a specialised Transmission shop. There is more than the internets

line pressure solinoid..
when changing the filter replace the four solinoid's as they are contaninated, these four solinoids control
shifts on all gear selections aswell as normal changes threw the gears.
you can clean these units but if seals are gone cheaper to relace ($12.50ea repco)
their is a fifth solinoid but access requires removal of valve body and if disturbed it "will" fail, because it's brittle plastic. (hot oil) this solinoid $105.00 repco (do not replace unless you have to)

Hummm.. i'll replace these. No doubt its going to be a pain in the arse whilst its in the car, so i'll do it to my other transmission and swap it in. Thanks mate.
