2006 Commodore SV6 VE
This is an old thread but others may find my experience relevant.
I am with AAMI, I called them yesterday and they scheduled my VE for inspection which was hail damaged in Dec 2017.
They confirmed that hail damage is covered by my comprehensive insurance and it will not affect my rating or premium.
I paid the excess and hoping assessor will decide to write off my VE so I can use the funds to deposit for a Holden Bolt.

My daughter is with AAMI and has hail damage, hers is booked in for June/July for PDR repairs, she was told she did not have to pay her excess until the repair was completed, they first booked it in for an inspection and she took it along to a big warehouse with probably 30 or more accessors checking the cars as the rolled in, there must have been at least 50 cars lined up in the que. The accessor went over the car and booked it for a date conveinient to both parties. Hers is pretty bad, headlining has to come out as the roof is pretty bad, bonnet was hit pretty hard and tops of doors have a few dents. It is an 8 seater people mover so a big roof, lining to come out and lots of stuff in the roof, triple climate control, stereo controls and various other stuff in the roof, will be a big bill for sure.

For those interested, my Commodore was decommissioned today due to extensive hail damage. the roof, bonnet and trunk needed replacing as it was determined unrepairable so insurance decided to give me agreed value minus access. The assessor determined the cost of parts and labour would be as high as the market value and they decided to make it a repairable write-off. good outcome for me as I was anticipating some hefty mechanical costs as well.
