Hi guys. 2009 VE SSV ute. The material has separated from the headlining and is sagging from the rear window. I was thinking upholstery aerosol glue/spray but the material appears thin, mesh like and I'm worried the glue/spray will seep or be visible? Is this a normal issue and what's the thoughts on rectification? Cheers.

Best method is to have the headling replaced. Costs about $150. And yes very typical.

Replaced as in find an automotive upholster? Or do most people tackle with a second hand roof lining? Very typical, car is only 6 years old doesn't that seem cray?

Yes and no.

Smoked in vehicles tend to have more issues like interior smells and finish not being fantastic

Smoke?

$150 for a Ute be an average pricing

Can pick up second hand and do yourself and save some dough

Cost me $330 to get teh wagon done.
I only got 6 years out of mine but I park mine outside in the sun all of the time, I suspect you would get longer if it was garaged. The foam layer between the cloth and the base board turns to dust.

i did it wrong and squirted that Selleys Spray Adhesive in the trouble area on old roof lining and made that area look wet and stayed that way

Didnt stop it from falling more also

Hence just changed the whole thing with second hand unit.

Agreed you need to get upholsterer to do it. I had this done in my VS Exec years ago and well worth it. I did one myself in a 1991 Nissan Pulsar, with a good used complete head lining. If you are going to attempt with a used one, you would want to find a very good one. My 2000 Clubby is kept in garage and still the original lining is holding up OK. I think if the car sits out in the sun the headlining will suffer.

Is easy mate

Thing from mine, i think there are torx bits as well as mentioned below
Torx bit on grab handle and sunvisors
Cant remember

Before attempting anything, have a look.
Theres usually screw covers on the handles etc and pop them out and have a look as if you dont have proper tools, you wont be removing the headlining

From LS!.com.au
Re: How to remove ute head lining?
1) Remove sunvisors and clips ( have stupid torx bits for some reason only known to holden engineers )
2) Remove interior light ( screws are under the lens )
3) Remove Grab handles ( 2 screws each side )
4) Unclip the trims that run up the cab pillar that cover the seat belts
5) undo screws that hold the 1/4 window trims and unclip them
6) unclip pillar trims that run along side windscreen
7) roof lining will come out after that.
Not a hard job just a pain when you get the roof lining dirty from dirty hands.
