Help!help! car wont start coffs and missfires

ive got a 94 vr v6 and over the last two weeks when i start the car it coffs and seems to miss a bit runs really ruff only when cold then it will settle down and run fine.
But today it wouldnt start at all it wineds up and trys to kick but doesnt quiet get there, I give it some gas and it coffs and backfires at the throttle body.
Ive checked the error codes and all i get is 12
any ideas???

not long ago aparently.. i thought that to but it only does its when its cold..

what fuel are you using and do you put additives in it?

Vaccuum lines?

i only use std unleaded.. but i think the fuel filter may be cloged up its been run low the last two tanks so i think that could be it or the fuel pump maybe!!!

Could be a fuel issue. Pressure regulator? Try clamping off the return line and see if it picks up. If the filter was blocked then it would do that all the time not just when cold. My VS will splutter occasionally when its first started but only if it hasn't been driven for a couple of days. I put it down to condensation on the spark plugs, after a couple of seconds it is fine.

is there a way of checking the fuel filter to see if its blocked??
