hi,
all of a sudden whenever i change gears there is a squeaking sound.
i have no idea what it is but is doesnt sound healthy :(
i first noticed it about 10m from home changing from second to first.
at idle i then changed through all of the gears and the chirp was there.
i though that it might be the gears catching as it sounds a bit like somthing grinding together,
so maby my cluch is gone?
scince i got the car (2 weeks) it has been a little clunky going into second if this has any relation.
any help would be much appreciated:bow:

This may not be related, where is the sound coming from? The front? I'm thinking the belt is slipping.

Try revving the engine in neutral and listen.

i thought that may be the case, it sounds a bit like that could be what it is (dont know what that sounds like though to compair)
i just went down stairs and gave it a bit of a rev in neutral nothing seams to happen,
however in 1st with the clutch pushed in, once you reach over 25000 rpm the squeaking sound starts, but once you drop down to idle it stops again

It could be the thrust bearing going and/or the clutch driven plate worn down to the rivets. Try putting it into reverse - if it grinds and sort of grabs then it the clutch plate gone.

hmm sounds expensive..
its done 250 000k's and i dont think its had a clutch replaced so its probable there is something wrong with it.. i did burn it the other day aswell (had a good song pumping and wasnt paying attention:whistling)
havent tried what you suggested but it is more of a grinding sound than a squeal

If it hasn't had the clutch replaced then its a hot favourite. If you do it yourself it should only cost between $300 and $500 for pressure plate, driven plate, thrust bearing and skim the flywheel.

Yeah I agree as said above about the clutch. I'd say get it check by a pro.
