I have a friend that owns a Sedan '96 holden commadore. Everytime she tries to start the car it won't start without turning the ignition on numerous of times. She claims that she's taken it to 5 auto guys that tell her it's the battery. after buying 2 new batteries and still failing to start after the first try we figured that these auto guys don't know what wrong.

The lights come on but the starter motor..just doesn't start.

could be the starter motor or not enough voltage is reaching the starter solenoid from the ignition id check/replace the relay to the s/m and check all the wiring :bang:

push the lever into park or just chuck it in neutral and try starting it like that. mine had the same problem but it was just the selector thinking that i didnt put the car in park.

A common problem with Holdens [ VS ]

Its the ignition switch - Key / its worn ...

Im not sure - but a new Key could possibly fix this ..

from my experience this is caused by gear selector sensor. slam gear stick around a bit (push it up toward dash) and it should start.

its the park and neutral switch that is at the bottom of the gear lever, it just just needs to be adjusted so it makes contact at the right place when in park or neutral
