The solution from ASR would more than likely sound better and might even be a bit cheaper so you should probably check it out. I can sell you the models from that link if its not possible to get ASR to do it.

As acarmody said we need to know your budget. I would also love to know how much space you have to work with so I can suggest an appropriate subwoofer (preferably from Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists of course )

I don't want to know how you figured that out!

For the most bass you want to go ported box for the subwoofer. For the most sound coming from the front you might want to use something like these:

I can recommend clearer sets but if your intention is the best volume then those are hard to beat.

Now back to the subwoofer box, do you mind doing some measurements so we can work out whats the biggest box you can fit in there? If its around 40 Litres you might want to consider one of these:

Those will get loudest with a 30-40L ported box.

If you want something REALLY mean (but I'm not sure if you can fit this beast):

Get back to us with some measurements, those are just some ideas. You can fit the xMplar in your budget so if you can actually fit the monster I definitely recommend it.

I'd recommend MTX systems. They produce great clarity and rather impressive output. They're not the cheapest around, but I would say they're the cheapest you should go if you want something that'll sound good and last well...

However, as important as good speakers/subs are, the box is what makes it. Poor box design are what let most subs down, just cause they look cool, doesn't mean they work

Replacing door speakers will be a good start, i pulled out the door speakers in my SSV the day i got it and gave them to the dog. hehe

I have a set of sony speakers and a sony slim line sub, it does ok. But in my previous car i had a set of boxed MTX 6x9s, MTX 5"s boxed in doors and an MTX Sub all with MTX amps. One could not sit in the car when it was on full volume. The difference between boxed and unboxed was significan though (IE Between in boxes and mounted in the parcel shelf)

As far as your head unit is concerned a good quality LOC (MTX make one of these as well) will solve all of your problems with the factory head unit, just patch into the standard speaker wires with some scotch clips and away you go.

MTX is sold at strathfield car radio. Kicker is also good from what i've heard, JB HI-FI have them although you'll be looking at higher dollars for a similar product. Amplifying can be an issue with VEs as they get alternator noise, a good quality LOC, and doing your wiring correct will solve it. I did my own, I have no alternator noise.

thanks to all i got it in i got 3 alpine amps alpine x seires speakers in front 2 alpine x series subs and a alpine head unit a bit more than i thought but sounds tuff

ahh where to begin in this post, I know next to nothing about audio and thought this thread would help as I have a VE ute and want to replace the audio system, what would be good for around $900?? lol
