I personally cant see how a FACTORY part from an actual dealer, which is properly fitted to the directions is illegal. The CAI kits came stock on VT Onwards anyway.

Well if it's illegal why did they fit it factory? And if it was illegal, probably half the vn-vs on here would get defected in a flash.

I have had a police officer look under my bonnet, asked me why I have a CAI.. I told him for efficiency etc. he said nothing more about it.

While the CAI wouldn't add a whole lot, you'll noticed a condirable difference in throttle responce at speed 80Km/h +, also I believe it's still restricted due to the design of the front bar, only about 1cm gap between the bar and bonnet allows for air to come in. I once accidently forgot to close my bonnet properly therefore leaving it about 2.5cms open and I noticed a major difference. CAI goes real well along with exhaust and appropriate highflow filter(K&N, Redline etc), on it's own it isn't a big improvement.

Maybe take the car to a panel shop and have them roll the front of the bonnet up a little to catch more of that sweet updraft?
