The revered SS badge will be laid to rest when the Aussie-built Commodore bows out at the end of next year.

Holden will replace the locally-manufactured rear-drive Commodore with an all-imported new model under the same name from January 2018. But MOTOR has learnt with no chance of a V8 variant the SS badge will not continue with the next-gen imported car.

As reported by MOTOR in May, Holden will farewell the SS next year by reviving the venerated Director nameplate last associated with Peter Brock and the controversial Energy Polarizer in the 1980s.

Not really a story. It's painful enough they intend to continue with the Commodore name. A non-V8 SS would be ridiculous.

Good. That's the right decision, unlike sticking Commodore badges on Insignias.

I mean, let's face it - the SS brand in itself was repurposed from this anyway. IMO, this is where it really belongs. :D

Nah ... you judge Back Then under the ridiculous presumption that the internet didn't exist back then, and pretty much nobody in Australia knew what some ... frankly strange-looking American car was called.

Well it is still a story,..covered by every reputable motoring news organisation!

And actually your wrong, the Commodore VP SS came in a V6 variant in place of the 5.0L V8. And the VT Commodore SS came in a V6 Supercharged automatic.

He didn't say they never made them - just that a V6 SS was ridiculous - I tend to agree and probably why Holden didn't continue to offer V6 as an option on the SS range

The new top model will be called VXR. Will be a V6 AWD in our market with a 9 speed auto.
