Holden VE Series II Audio Upgrade

I’m a newbie when it comes to car audio so I really need some help

I’ve got a 2011 Holden VE Omega Series II

I want to replace all my factory speakers including the tweeters and add a sub with an amplifier I’ve also got the Holden IQ head unit, which I cannot replace because of the climate control.

My budget is max $1,300

The speakers for the front and splits:
Pioneer 280 watt split speakers
Pioneer 280 Watt Split Speakers - Speakers - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!

The 2 rear door speakers:
Pioneer 6" 3-way speakers
Pioneer 6" 3-way Speakers - Speakers - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!

The subwoofer:
Pioneer 1400 Watt 12" Sub In Box
Pioneer 1400 Watt 12" Sub In Box - Subwoofer - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!

The amplifier:
Pioneer 4 Channel Bridgeable Amplifier GM6500F
Pioneer 4 Channel Bridgeable Amplifier - Amplifier - Amp - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!

I’m buying all these from JB HI FI, however I’m not getting them to install it as their dodgy and what not, so I’m going to a professional place.
I live in Melbourne and I was thinking about going to one of these
• Street Sound and Vision
• Performance Car Audio
• Freeway Car Audio
• Phatt Audio Concepts

a) Does anyone know roughly how much professional installers cost to install all that (including the wire/cables)?
b) What is a LOC and do I need to buy one, how much are they If I do?
c) Dynamat, worth using them?
d) Definitely disconnect the center dash speaker as its pointless and rattles, correct?
e) Should I put alpine for the front splits instead?
f) The amplifier is 4 channels do I need that, or do I just need 2 channels?
g) Is the subwoofer worth that price or can i get a better one ?

(Sorry about heaps of questions.)

Just keep in mind you will void new car warranty. Those iq systems break and it may end up costing a lot as for the other stuff speak to the person you want to install it all.

Depends on the warranty company but assuming its holden new car warranty you can't do any thing to the iq system. Also it will only void the warranty on the electrical system not on the motor

oh i thought it was the whole car, well i'll just take the chance, plus i'm going in for a service soon so they should update the IQ system then after i'll install the speakers and stuff

Personally, I wouldn't put in any door speakers unless there was an amp going into run them. I see you have the four channel listed... Great for the speakers but what is running the sub?

You can buy from one and get another to install but first ask them how much extra they charge when purchased at another store.

If someone brings me a product purchased elsewhere I typically charge an extra 15% labour and I will charge for all parts used. I'm not being an arse... But it's business.

is their an amp for both subs and speakers ? it would be cheaper to get that instead of having two amps separately

thats fair enough, you got any idea how much roughly for installation am i looking at ?

Centre speakers - disconnect them.
LOC - you dont HAVE to use them but it is highly recommended to get good sound of the standard HU.
Amp - u can use a 4 channel and a mono for the sub and splits. Alternatively, get a 5/6 channel one.
Dynamat - if budget allows, definitely use them
Speakers - personal preference in how they sound. Listen to both alpine and pioneer and decide. I prefer alpine personally.

VE II Omega Ute; Fairmont Ghia
If I could piggyback onto this thread......

I have an VEII Omega ute, 3.0 V6.

The audio is OK for my needs (I'm an old fart) except for the FM radio. I travel the Hume Freeway a lot and I know most of the FM stations to tune into, but this car has trouble picking them up even on 'DX' scan - this means I must program them in manually beforehand.

I thought I would be able to upgrade to a better unit from a higher series car such as Calais or SS but someone said they would not be compatible.

I rang a company in Melbourne who specialises in upgrades and I can get a new headunit with sat nav for - gulp - $1600!!

I then visited a well known local car audio place and said I wanted a better FM radio and they said there is nothing they can do for me.

I can't believe the FM sensitivity is so poor for an Australian built car.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone else who has the same problem or is there a problem with my particular ute which is still under warranty
