Both have similar power but the majestic V8 sounds like it may have more interesting options (4WD, air suspension, park assist, etc, wiki even says supercharged).

Then there is the fact that Toyota is still selling lots of vehicles in this country so there is no doubt about parts and service support. That last fact alone should place the Toyota on a higher perch than the Holden... I’d also guess insurance may be cheaper on the Toyota.

But it comes down to taste and what you like the look of... something more bogan or something more refined :p

Yea nah... It's an import you should buy a lotto ticket if you can get a toyota parts guy to go any further than telling you they don't do imports.

VE will be much cheaper in maitence.

Ah, that’s why I’ve not heard of it...
I would generally stay away from a private import unless you speak Japanese’s and know you can get stuff direct from Japan. And I know of people that have has a difficult time changing screen language from Japanese over to Engrish  FM radio issue, etc  but they loved their soarer

If it’s something OP really really likes, check it out thoroughly and go in with eyes wide open ;)

Grey import ? or whatever they call them theses days.
Many moons ago ago, I looked at a Toyota Soarer. Did my homework, and despite being assured by the company that were selling them that servicing and parts would not be a problem, local Toyota dealers said that they would not be interested helping with a problem.
Can't remember the import company's name, but it had outlets Aust wide, and went broke.
Buy the Holden.

Edit ... the Commodore Coupe at the 1998 Sydney car show justified my earlier decision not to buy a Soarer.
