Can someone please tell me what the 2 small square holes are for that are located behind where the rear number plate is fitted? Thanks.

Could be for the square screws and nuts.

Not sure what they're for but my VC has 2 rubber grommets covering those holes up...

I also have a rear cut here from a VB/VC that has grommets there too

There are multiple number plate mounting spots for different style number plates as well.

Or what if the car was repaired using an Opel panel. Maybe then it would have UK or German number plate holes.

Stops the number plate rattling.
Second that,
I had a VC, and that’s what I recon that’s what they were there for,
Because the bottom of the plate would damage the paint when rattling.
