Need some ideas on home networking. At this point i still only have dial-up and wont be changing that for a little while. Either way some kind of BASIC networking would be nice.
Knowing nothing about it i thought i would pitch at you guys what i have and what i want to do and see what churns out the other end!
I have - a pretty old desktop PC running XP with a bit of spare memory, built in dial-up modem and some kind of network card (ethernet port?). this machine is stuck in a back bedroom where it is out of sight and too cold far from civilisation to get much use.
The other machine is a macbook, straight out of the box. No dial-up capabilities without a mac modem. It does have airport though.
Here's what i would ideally love to have and be able to do-
Connect the XP bomb to my cheapo dialup internet and have it network with the mac so i can wirelessly access the bomb in the backroom with the mac in the rest of the house.
Failing that i can run a blue cable (cat5?) from the XP to the mac and share internet and printers that way.
Any thoughts or plans? Can a PC actually share with a mac?
All help appreciated.
(also have a really old win2000 laptop that's good for nothing other than a bit of internet browsing through the plasma as it has a screwed screen - maybe it can hook in somehow too! it only has a network card - no wireless).
