hi i got a set of 6.5 inch speakers

the power rating is at 60 watts rms and 140 watts peak

what i what to know is should i run them at 60 watts or at the 140 mark

i listen to a lot of hip hop, heavy metal and punk rock and i love to thump the volume

an amplifier rated for about 100watts would be good.

some headroom is good, and in reality you can never have too much power, thats what the volume control is for, but a 100watt per channel amplifier is going to be easier, and cheaper to find than something higher powered.

Yeah, always try to have at least the RMS/continuous rated power of a speaker. About 1.5 times that figure is even better :)

So as AmmoJammo said, about 100Wrms would be good.
