Not sure how your supposed to remove the coolant reservoir on the VY V6 as it seems to be under the air filter assembly box and I cant see anyway of getting to it at all? Despite the Gregorys manual saying its attached with just 2 screws, maybe on another model but certainly not on the VY!

The guide in this thread is for a VS. Your VY has a different reservoir. The Gregorrys does not say remove 2 screws, I checked it! (this guide does because it's a VS).
For your VY you will need to jack up the car and get under the reservoir. You will need to remove few bolts (I think two attached to the front, and two more ones).

I've read that demineralised water can in fact be quite corrosive, due partly to its lack of calcium & magnesium & also its exposure to CO2. That being the case, wouldn't it be safer to use distilled or even spring water in the cooling system?

As someone in Perth, calcium can get stuffed. It’s on everything.
