Am I able to just swap out the bcm or do I have to replace everything to get it started

The BCM is linked to the PCM. Remove it and it will need to be re-linked or it won't start. This is a security feature. The Key head is coded to the BCM.

to start the car requires 2 things
disable the immobilizer, which requires a linked fob, bcm and ecu
turn the ignition barrel which requires a keyblade that turns the barrell

Maybe the owner has the key somewhere?

This is in owners manual so I don't see any issues posting it.

In case of key head failure, you can put the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position and leave it for 2 hours and then the car should start. This is done so if the key head does fail it won't leave you stranded somewhere.

Not sure TBH, I thought it was only 1/2 hour for earlier models and then extended to 2 hours.
