Just bought a Calais Base demo - excited for it.

It is good cause I have to make a trip down to NSW and back in early Sep.

I tried to get up it as much as I could straight up, I think it freed up after 300km no problems, did the same with the one before it with no problems 220,000km up when sold it and never used more than 1mm of oil on the stick in 10,000km same diff and gearbox as it came with no problems at all.
It's only the rings that have to be bed in and that's why you have to drive the car hard as you can is best up and down the rev range as hard as you can especially the first 100 km but never flat out top speed for big km like the NT highway.
This way she will perform better than a engine that has been driven less so.
I have done the same with every car and bike that I have bought new and proved they went better with a mate with his new VS 5.0L and mine the same his and my VY SS and VZ SS all stock standard mind, this is in 3rd gear runs and 4th gear runs proving so it has nothing to do with driving skill.

Mine was a demo with just under 1000km on it when we bought it. The car yard did the supercharger and cam when it was new.

So I'm guessing ti didn't have the gentlest of running in, considering the salesmen would've caned it a fair bit

Yeah OP linear bearings are the only type in the engine or entire vehicle that need to bed in  and the best way to bed those are to put under extreme stress from factory install ;)

I picked up my new VF a few months ago and drove is 90 mins south of Sydney for a work lunch and back home and then did an oil and filter change with 200kms on the clock. The cars build plate was 7 months before delivery date, so it sat in a dealership getting started and idled for god knows how long once a week, so it would have been caked with carbon from not being driven. Change them both every 7500km.

I drove it fairly hard right from the outset and loaded it on hills.

It racks up over a thousand kms a week every week and had it's first 15,000 service already, and I did the 22,500 oil change. Hoping this one will give me no grief till I sell it in 5 years with about 250,000 on the clock

Always good practice to change out the oil frequently in these LS engines ;)

Tractors and dozers are to be run in under as much load as you can.
Running in Bearings is a load of crap.
The only thing one must be mindful of is not getting things too hot.
