Hey guys im having trouble with my vs 97 wagon, its been ideling rough for a while and i took it to the mechanics who cant seem to find the problem he checked the spark plugs and said they were fine and he seems to think maybe there is air coming from somewere so i have no idea, once the car gets more warmer the ideling not as rough as it is in the mornings.

Does anyone have ideas???

mine ran rough & got better when it warmed up . 02 sensors were my problem .
found out from this forum that if i cut the pink wire ( i did left & right sensors ) it may improve .
it solved my problem .

check to see if yours have got four wires going to them , which mine did .
some only have 2 wires . i think they are around $80 ea ?

Before you spend money do a fault code check which may indicate the problem. Cutting the pink wire will only work if you have a bad earth. New sensors are on Ebay for about $55 ea for Gen Delphi and if you do buy new I wouldn't cut wires till it's proven that is the fault (my opinion only).
It may be the coolant temp sensor is faulty - this is the one that tells the ECU when the engine is cold or hot - if it's faulty the engine will run lean when cold. The VS has 2 sensors - 1 for the temp gauge and 1 for the ECU so don't confuse them!.
Here is the link on how to check codes:

I went into repco a couple of weeks ago and asked and they said 100 and something for one..
I looked on Ebay.. and bought 2x of the 2-wire ones for 117 delivered. The brand of them is Delphi. There is an improvement in fuel economy straight up, but it wasn't until I changed the coolant temperature sensor ($80), as posted in another thread, that's when I noticed my ecotec idle better cold & hot. Might be worth looking at / mentioning..

VS series 2 (1997) Oxygen sensors have 4 wires not 2 as in the VX. It's possible that the VS series 1 had a 2 wire sensor plus they only had 1 sensor (not 2). It's complicated and I'm not sure you can plug a 2 wire into a 4 wire plug.
I stick with what the car came out from the factory - that is a 4 wire for a series 2 (1997) VS.

I did not intend to infer that you can use the 2wire sensor in any 4 wire sensor application. The sensor in the pic is suited to my series 1 VX (08/00)

The 4 wire sensor has 4 wires but looks almost identical to the 2 wire sensor in the pic above, same box, brand etc otherwise I would have given the part number....

sounds like something a mechanic would say, as hako explained check your error codes and then id suggest getin' ya mechanic to test your Idle Air Control Valve if its not the oxy sensors
