There seem to be 3 different Bosch leads to fit 3800 engines: black leads with rubber ends, black leads with metal shields and the sporty blue leads. I haven't found any difference between them....
Thanks. I was wondering if the metal shields are necessary. Mine currently has them.

worn leads and plugs create unnecessary strain on the coils and they eventually fail

Yes, Keep the shields. It protects the sparkplug boot from excessive heat from the exhaust manifold.
