what level is your car? executive / acclaim / berlina calais statesman etc?

also if you have a look underneath the back, is the axel about 1 or 2 inches thick? does it look " exposed "?

if it appears that the rear axel is one big thick bar thing then its live axel, if it appears to be a somewhat flexible "3 peice " setup, its most likely IRS

if your still in doubt, take a happy snap and we can tell you for sure :)

p.s. Welcome to JustCommodores, enjoy your stay :D

Thanks Patrio7 after searching threads and reading your post I am convinced that I have a "live" rear end. I purchased VS that came without exhaust from pacemakers extractors back and I have been trying to get exhaust but I have been telling people that I had a IRS rear end. Now to start again.
Thanks for your help Bill

Just for anyone else that finds this thread wanting to know if their car has an IRS or live axle rear end. The easiest way to tell is the exhaust on an IRS rear end goes underneath the axle and the exhaust on a live axle rear end goes over the axle. This wouldn't have helped you anyway because you dont have an exhaust.

Also normally the car bogs down when you select D and the rear wheels are on a bit of an angle.
