I'm helping my brother get his SS ready for the pits, but the tyres need replacing. The rims are the VY SS 18" rims, but tyres for them are really expensive. Is it legal to put stahdad

Stupid phone...

Anyway, is it legal to put standard 15" rims and tyres even though the wheel placard only lists the 18"s? Would it pass inspection?

you need to maintain the rolling diameter, offset and max allowed width.

if they are just off another VY that's completely fine, even recommended - they will think it's weird that you have stocko rims but i doubt they'd say anything if they are legal.

SS Tonners and Crewman had 15’s from factory so can’t see why not.

VY SS
Totally legal. They came from factory (not SS but on the VY model). Just need to check the tyres are 205/65 from memory.

only thing that might trip you up is if they don't fit over the brakes.

Rolling diameter should be the same, pretty sure the brakes are the same as a standard VY. I have a few steelies I can check with. Just thought it was odd that the only wheels listed on the placard were 18"s.

They will.

I made an error. The V6 Crewman came with 15” steel wheels. The SS had alloy.

This might help a bit.

VY SS
I doublechecked, the stock VY SS runs 235/40 R18 which is almost identical rolling diameter to the 205/65 R15. Brakes are only an issue if they are C5 (HSV) or higher. Then 17 is the minimum
