Which bit is the voltage regulator? Is it the black bit that unscrews, that the brushes are soldered into or is it the bit inside the alternator at the back?

The black bit that unscrews with the brushes needs replacing, if you havn't already done it.

It is black, and has two screws, you kinda twist it out of the back of the alternator. That is most likely the source of your problem. People need to realise that this should be the first thing changed, not the alternator, because it is so much cheaper lol

They used to be around $50 - and it regulates the output of the alternator. You can just replace the brushes for under $10 but you need to solder them in.

Already done the brushes, so is still likely to be the regulator? If so I may as grab one if they aren't too expensive.
