ya mum!
It WILL happen here if voters don't use their brains, and put in a party that hands them everything they think want breaking the bank.

Exactly. Greece is the first modern, real world example of the failed socialism experiment... Socialist governments do nothing but generate record debt. For some unknown reason they never seem to give a **** that some day it has to be paid back!

He wasnt doing what was best for Greece.

He took leadership with promises of more handouts and cutting their already crippling debt. He made grandstanding promises because thats what Greece wanted to hear and what would get him into power.

That continues today with him grandstanding to the delusional Greek people.

not a whole lot different to any politician , making promises to the country to get elected really , the writing was on the wall for Greece before Alexis Tsipras came into power .

Yeah the writing has been on the wall for Greece for a while. That is why I find your comment about doing what was best for Greece quite unsettling.

If he thought that what he was doing was the best for Greece, id hate to see someone come in and do what was bad for it. I dont blame him or his party though. Politics in many countries is doing what will get you elected, not doing what needs to be done. He is a strong socialist its not his fault for doing what he does. Its the voters fault.

Sometimes, heads need to be cracked and people need to be told no. He had no spine to do that and I dont think the Greek people would have accepted any party that was honest about the situation at the ballot box. What was best for Greece was someone who was brutally honest. What Greece voted for was someone who blew smoke up their arses.

Greece is a good example to us all. This is what happens when the working age cannot support the retired age pension (greece is magnified with tax evasion and high public service pensions and jobs). This should be a warning to Australia where the retired population is ever increasing and the younger generation is more interested in the endless circle of university degrees paid for by Mr Taxpayer.

While the Olympics had a part to play, they simply failed to do ANYTHING with the facilities after the games. Look at Australia, where the purpose built Olympic facilities were planned for future use. Getting off topic here for a moment, but I feel sorry for the people of Brazil who are going to be SMASHED with the Olympic costs.

For me, the whole single currency concept is just plain flawed. It takes away the major tool governments can use to manage their countries economics. All be imprecise, it's a very important tool for govco to use.

I find the Greek Debt fascinating, just like lab. On our side of the pond, people have the mentality that cannot happen here, so, they are not interested. They rather follow Courageous Caitlyng Jenner life more relevant to their lives.

Looooooool yeah. USA whilst in a very different situation is very much at risk of one day doing exactly the same thing.

So it begins, Google for....

Greece privatization list, or, Greece privatization.

As austerity measures, ehem.... repossession. Their utilities are managed by private corporations, specially the energy sector.

PRIVATIZATION DEALS UNDERWAY

- 99-year lease of former Athens airport Hellenikon to a group of real estate and investment firms including Greece's Lamda Development (LMDr.AT), China's Fosun (0656.HK) and Abu-Dhabi based property firm Al Maabar (915 mln euros)

- 40-year lease of 14 regional airports to Germany's Fraport (FRAG.DE) and Greek energy firm Copelouzos (1.23 bln euros)

- Hellenic Railways (Trainose), Railway Maintenance Company (ROSCO)

- Sale of a majority stake in Piraeus Port (OLP) (OLPr.AT), which is now being halted, sale of a majority stake in Thessaloniki Port (OLTr.AT)

- Small ports and marinas

- Electricity grid operator ADMHE

- Planned sale of 30 percent of PPC's production activities (now halted)

- Sale of a 66 percent stake in#natural#gas#grid operator DESFA to Azerbaijan's SOCAR has been agreed but is pending EU approval.#Greece#is due to receive 188 million euros while Greek refiner Hellenic Petroleum (HEPr.AT) is due to receive 212 million euros.

UPCOMING PRIVATIZATION DEALS NOW IN DOUBT

- First sale of real estate-backed notes

- Sale of a stake in state gas company DEPA

- Sale of a stake in Athens International Airport

- Concession to operate the Egnatia toll motorway in northern#Greece

- Large regional ports - Lavrio mega-yacht marina southeast of Athens

- Sale of government's minority stake in Greece's biggest refiner Hellenic Petroleum (HEPr.AT)

- Sale of a stake in Hellenic Post (ELTA)

- Rights to develop South Kavala gas storage

In the way I see it.
The poor saps have a house and the bank repossessing all their belongings. At the end, will have an empty lot and not even a bicycle to go to work. How are they going to exit the Euro Zone if they cannot sustain themselves? Economically, a hollowed out country, just like a watermelon after all your mates scoops out all the insides.

Here is some interesting... Goldman Sachs Greece Scandal

Now, who are these people? Goldman Sachs

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is an American multinational investment banking firm that engages in global investment banking, securities, investment management, and other financial services primarily with institutional clients.

... is a primary dealer in the United States Treasury security market. It is recognized as one of the premier investment banks in the world

I must say.... a very nasty group of people.

Have you noticed their Energy Sector? Gas and Oil; is for sale. Given the geographical location puts them in a very interesting spot. Imagine the Israelis put the Leviathan Gas field to work and the only spot is through Greece. The Russian controlled Turkey and Syria is unstable for all the crap that is going on. Also, oil and gas pipelines needs to run through them.

If Greece is bailed by the Russians, they could have the upper hand on the pipeline route. If is on the US side, they can do whatever they please. So Europe is at the mercy of 2 Nations. Now, if Germany controls it, they can pic and choose from whom to buy Gas and Oil. Let us say, a car with a Fuel Tank with to caps on each side. Now they can have a "best price wins".

Gas cap at the Ukrainian border, the other by Greece.

By the way, as a bonus, throw the Yacht Club/Port (Lavrio mega-yacht marina southeast of Athens) in the bin...

what really saddens me is , a country with such a rich cultural history like Greece , the founder of what we call democracy , the home of the modern Olympic games , and some of the best philosophers , has come to this , one of best countries I've ever visited , with some of the friendliest people as well , friendly but totally useless I might add .

I think they are the suckers of a predatory global banking system. On top of that, they were handed a nice and clean credit card and maxed it out recklessly; Opa to that !

Is like the Iron Lady said, the Socialist are happy until other people's money runs out.

Very nasty combination of Olympic proportions... (pun intended).

friendly but totally useless I might add .

That is what happens when the country is set in "Cruise Control/Auto Pilot" and forget how the Gov works and keep up with current events; just dumbed down population.

Have anybody heard about Ciudad Central Airport? There are countless constructions of roads and residential areas that are deserted.

That is what happen when a socialist party takes control and is handed a blank check; Bankers love them.
