Hi all, just bought a dashcam, it is a Navman Mivue 358 ($165) records in 1080p and uses a microsd card to record in 5 minute bursts then once the card is full just rewrites over the top. It is set to start recording as soon as the car starts also has a gyro sensor so if someone bumps into the car while i am away it will start recording and hopefully record the culprit.
Video footage here. Navman myvue 358 daytime video - YouTube

Mine kept falling down on hot days (crappy suction cap) and finally broke. Waiting for a replacement, it has a 3 year warranty.
I like that gyro sensor idea, mine doesn't have that.

Bought at the good guys $165 plus $27 for a 16gb micro sd card. It's a navman mivue 358. it is the middle of the range, they have one below that doesn't have gyro feature and only records in 720p not 1080p, the top of range has gps tracking etc. see here Products | In Car Cameras | Navman GPS Australia

The 388 is $279 at DickSmith. Not too expensive.

Have been thinking of getting one of these but don't like the idea of a bulky item cluttering the windscreen and being easily visable. Was wondering if there is such a thing where the camera in on a long seperate leed and can be placed where ever, back of rear vision mirror or across roofline on interior of car, with the recording part of the device in your glovebox or under the dash, somewhere easily accessable.

Because you're not going to have your phone recording video continually while you're driving, and you're not going to leave it in the car to record careless drivers backing into you, perhaps?
