just wondering how rims are repaired

is this how its done if u get it done professionally ? i thought they would have to add metal to badly damaged areas by welding and then grind it smooth ?

think so mate, if your wheels are painted alloy,

if they are chrome or brushed alloy its a different story, but your typical greyish silver alloys are painted

first pic is how they were

second is after sanding out all the chips/gutter marks etc and painting with an etch primer

3rd after sanding again and painting with undercoat

4th is after sanding again painting

that is how its done professionally.
alloy wheels are not painted, they are clear coated to protect the finish of the rim - thats the only "paint" that goes on alloys.
some alloys are finished without clear coating as well.

flat spots are heated and rolled in most cases.
missing chunks are filled and ground.
cracks are welded and ground.

thats not true mate,

trust me alloys are painted from new, if you dont blv me,

put some paint stripper on em and see if that takes them back to the bare metal
