just wondering if anyone here is a writer of any kind

i'm starting out in advertising, so i've done a bit of copywriting.
i've got a mate who writes. he's written for desktop magazine, beat/inpress and he's got a novel going to a small print run and selling on itunes.

The main problem you will encounter is writers block and money...It costs alot to "produce" a book, but not many people think about the costs of writing it...JK Rowling and all those other popular novelists spend at least a year on each book...They don't work, then come home and write for a couple of hours...They write most of their time...So you will need money, as you wont be working much to earn money...

True, but there's nothing to stop you writing after work, on weekends etc. Obviously it'll take a lot longer, but you don't have to turn it into a full-time job, it can just be a hobby (like cars for most of us!)

I also have the feeling that serious writing is something you'd need ease into. Maybe start writing a few short stories then build up to the magnum opus

I'm seriously considering writing a few children's books after christmas, I have a few ideas in my head. I'm an artist specialising in children's art so it seem a natural progression going into kids book illustration/writing. I think having a couple of kids myself will help me. I haven't written anything since uni essays 3 years ago so I hope I can still put together a grammatically correct sentence or 2 lol
