Key fob transponder programming

Hi commodore comrads . My key fob has recently stopped communicating with the ignition so I bought a new transponder. Is there a way to program it manually? I was going to buy the map key programmer but apparently they've been recalled

You need a high end scan tool to program the key to the car. Autel make one I believe.
@krusing knows the name of the model that works. The cheap Autels won't do it.
Have you tried replacing the battery in the fob?

Tech2 does it.

Check the steering column shroud. Under that is the transponder reader. It gets brittle and is held on by a ring screw that’s attached to a clear polycarbonate tab. The tab breaks just because. The transponder reader can then fall away and not read the transponder in the key.

Check that first.
