Update - Solved. TEC2 remap of the standard L98, followed by the mafless tune again. Havn't had the problem since.

So ...it's been a while now....how's the car going at the moment!?
Did it get dyno'd,if so..what's the numbers it ran.

One more question....what size cam are you running ?
cheers..

Can't see why you would have to pay for another tune. The tuner will have saved his tune so all they will have to do is re-flash it onto new PCM. Even if the car needs re-licensed with hp tuners it only costs a couple of hundred providing they don't have unlimited licensing for that model/year but most shops should have ithat

I'd say the OP has been given some bum advice along the line.

It clearly sounds like when the tune was flashed early on something got corrupted. Re-initialising the ECU and than re-flashing the tune and everything been ok clearly points to a corrupted file. IT DOES HAPPEN (disconnecting the cable to soon or maybe turning off the key before upload is complete...). But it's not difficult to fix if you know how. Maybe someone was trying to get more coin out of the OP, there are certainly some dodgy operators about.

Wow thats unlucky... SO the whole time the ecu was at fault and not the initial tuner? Or is this a new problem?.. Or where they both a problem lol?

Wow i cant believe all this crap you guys go thru. I have a '06 L98 manual with 88k on the clock and i would not dream of any mods like that. (maybe extractors /exhaust but thats all. The car is so fast and smooth and flexible from factory why do it?
My wife can drive it like a granny to the shop all day and i can stretch its legs all night ...and good on fuel too. Insane ?

Just on this - the ECM in my L76 died when being tuned after having a cam fitted - the flash on the ECM itself was corrupted or something along those lines. Fortunately the tuner knew someone in Melbourne who specialises in fixing them, and was able to get it pulled apart and fixed for $200 rather than the extremely expensive and annoying exercise of having to buy a new one, then get it linked via Tech 2.

Hmmm. Doesn't it sound a little bit funny that the tuner basically killed your ECU, but he knew someone who could fix it cheap.
Makes it seem like he did you a favour, when really it sounds like he should have been paying to fix it because he broke it.
That said, I know nothing about tuning, so this may be a possible risk with it. I guess the sceptic in me just questions his story he gave you...

It's not really fair to blame the tuner if the ECM memory corrupts while the tune file is being loaded across - I know him personally as well. It also killed the throttle body when it freaked out, so had to get a gold bladed one.

Can't remember the name of the place that it was sent to.
