LED upper brake light- pink slip

Anyone know if the upper led bake light has to be working to renew a pink slip in NSW?
Both rear brake tail lights work
Led doesn’t look to be an item you can buy while you’re out getting the milk

Modern vehicles all have the upper brake light that must be working by law.

You can buy the LED strip from Holden dealers. Then find a thread on here on how to change it. They are kinda expensive.

Just go to nearest junk yard and buy the whole assembly for about $50..

Nasty thing to replace. To do it properly the rear of the roof lining will need to be lowered a bit.

Also confirm, the rear roof lining needs to be dropped.
The unit is held on with two phillips head screws on each outer edge.

Check the wiring first, for a few minutes effort might be worthwhile.

I had a problem with my high mount brake light in VE either 3 or may be 4 years ago with pink slip inspection (NSW) at the time. They did give me the pink slip OK, and advised me that the light not working. I started to try and get light out but didn't manage to actually get it out, but then found the light was working fine. I'm thinking when I was trying to get the light out it has come good, so presumably moving the thing around perhaps the wiring connector came good. It still works.

It's a poor design. Should be able to access a light without major work being needed to drop the headlining.
