Can someone explain the difference between long motor and short motor, also, big block and small block?
Heard and read of it but don't know what it means.

I'm not 100% but a short motor is a bare block and a long motor is an assembled engine. Any motor up to a 427ci is a small block anything bigger than that is a big block.

Short motor = complete engine minus the cylinder head/s & manifolds.
Long motor = complete engine minus manifolds.

Big/Small block (a.k.a. Rat & Mouse) = Two physically different sized engine blocks used by Chevy over the years. Small block capacities (in cubic inches) include 283, 307, 327 and 350. Big blocks were 427, 454 & 510. There are many more, but these were the most common forms.

You can get a big block 350, and a small block 350 as well. Be aware of that.
