Lost 6 months emails on Outlook Express - XP

Every so often, Outlook wants to compact files and clean up etc.
That happened today and now i have lost the last 6 months of emails.
Not real handy when your trying to run a business from home.
Anyone know how to get the emails back into Outlook?
They arent in the deleted folder or anywhere visible in Outlook.
I believe they have been compacted and stored somewhere but i dont know where or how to retrieve them.
Any help would be appreciated.

We clicked "Compact messages" in Outlook Express and the last - Microsoft Community

Id be more concerned you have no backups, Drives have a life expectency of less then five years. When did you buy your hard drive ( im guessing a while ago if its running XP )

If the drive dies, thats it. Kaput.
