Ls1 sump gasket

I need to change my sump gasket in my vt is this possible to do in the car or does the engine have to come out

Doesnt have to come out but engine needs to be lifted up and possibly the sub frame needs lowering. C#nt of a job. Mine needs doing but im holding off until other stuff needs doing under there so it can all go in and get done together.
