Downshift to second, a little blip to rev match takes the stress off the gearbox. Prefer to feel like I'm in control.

Just a question for all you manual drivers. If you have to come to a stop for a traffic light ahead, do you downshift or whack it into neutral and brake? What is more fuel economic?

years of riding a mudderboike have crossed over to my car driving
I downshift...one gear at a time (so I am in the right gear to accelerate)
I also sit at lights in gear...so I can go if it looks like someone is going to hit
me up the arse (and that has saved me twice in the past 10-15 years)

I live in the ACT and they'll fail you on your p's test if you down shift haha. they want you to brake, clutch in then back to first n wait. i usually chuck it in neutral and brake though.

I've always liked downshifting without the clutch and without giving the hoon rev in between, just adds that little bit more understanding of the car if you know where the speeds and revs match. And its just fun to do.

if i'm feeling lazy, i'll just leave it in whatever gear i'm in until the car almost stalls or the lights change - one of the two.

if i'm not feeling lazy, it's a heel-toe downshift while braking. - nice and quietly at lazy revs :p

Downshift if its a smooth stop, downshift and brake if its a normal stop or knock it into neutral and brake hard if its a sudden stop. :)

I do the same, with the exception that If its a hard stop, you will slow down quicker by going to 2nd while braking, try it.
