mate ive listened to it about 5 times and it dosnt sound all that bad, id change your oil and filter, drop the sump off and clean it then keep on driveing it, drop the oil in 5000km's and check whats in there

worst case the engine stops but hey your already been told to get a new motor so whats the worst that could happen ? i say keep on driving ive herd alot worse

i will save for a new motor. Hopefully it lasts until i get off my P's (3 years) so i can chuck a l67 in.

if it was a main bearing or something like that you would A loose oil pressure and B the motor would knock like a #### ... you said it was a while since a service, how long exactly ?

i dunno i got the car in may but i never drove it much until i got my Ps in Augest.
I think its been quite a long time judging by how dirty the oil was.

You engine idles fine. Just baby it. You will get a lot of warning before the engine lets go regardless. A mate drove his VS with pretty seriously bearing knock for 4 months before it seized, and he caned it quite a lot too.
