just wanna say one more thing. have you ever noticed that if you have a aircon running in your house at night and your fridge kicks in, the lights dip for a second??? would you go messing with the 240v feed and try to bring it up to 255v?

That's got to do with too small mains or too small submains. Easy fixed.

You are correct though - you don't just ramp the voltage up.

its just a fact of life. if you have things running and another thing starts its gonna draw more power initially which means its gonna be a power hog making other things dim for a second but then the flow catches up and everything goes back to normal
