Chevrolet Lumina Coupe S (Monaro CV6)
I'm running a 2003 Chevrolet Lumina coupe here in the United Arab Emirates (naturally aspirated Monaro CV6 with different badges) and spare parts can be a bit awkward to get hold of, unless I want to pay stupidly expensive dealer prices.

Now,we know that the V8 version of the Monaro was sold in the USA from 2004 to 2006 as the Pontiac GTO and I was wondering just how much of the mechanical and trim stuff is shared with my car as there is reasonably good availability from Rockauto.com (sorry guys, Aussie parts are generally too expensive and the shipping costs are totally insane). Obviously the engine stuff is mostly no good, possibly transmission, but what about drive shafts, axle shafts, suspension bushes, balljoints, interior trim, interior electrics etc.?

Does anyone have any ideas about how good the commonality is? Thanks

for a start the AU is RHD and the US is LHD so there's that.

Absolutely, although apart from steering rack, some of the wiring loom and the dashboard there's not a massive difference in the majority of cases.

Of course, with the UAE being a left-hand drive market, my car's commonality with the USA is better :)

Thinking also of V6 vs V8, there's the question of commonality of driveshafts etc. That's something that Oz based owners would know.

Is there a good On-line catalogue that will allow me to check V6 vsV8 part numbers, that I can then reference against Rockauto for the GTO (which is V8 only)? With a lot of the staff in spares shops only having limited English language skills, it's helpful for me to have GM part numbers. Thanks

I don't know of any online catalogues where you could get genuine part numbers from to compare

In regards to Monaro vs Pontiac GTO vs Chev Lumina Coupe

Different Parts:

# Instrument cluster....Monaro is KM/H....GTO is MPH...Chev Lumina is ???? Well you would know that anyway :)
# Steering rack....Left vs right hand drive obviously
# Headlights....Beam cut off point is different for left and right hand side of the road driving

Interchangeable Parts:

Pretty much everything else will be interchangeable
# All front and rear suspension components and bushes would be interchangeable....Except for V6 and V8 springs
# Interior & Exterior body parts....Door handles, Door trims, Switch assemblies, Interior trim panels etc etc
# Driveshafts.....VT - VZ V6 and V8 commodore are the same part number....I would expect that the Monaro, Pontiac GTO and Chev Lumina V6 and V8 would also be the same and share identical shafts between the V6 and V8
Tailshaft….V6 to V6 & V8 to V8

Brake parts could possibly pose an issue....
I don't know exactly which models, but some Monaro's and GTO's were fitted with a C5 Corvette brake upgrade package.
But this can be solved easily enough by just measuring the size of the rotors

Please Note:
This is just a quick list off the top of my head
In no way is it a full comprehensive breakdown of differences & similarities between these models, but if I think of anything else I will definitely add it to the list

Thank you, that pretty much matches what I was expecting.

Routine maintenance stuff is readily avail (pads, discs, filters etc) but the rest can either be hard to find or expensive.

We use kph here - essentially, it's pure Aussie Monaro with the steering wheel on the wrong side :)

pontiac GTO 2006 i.e Monaro - v8 427Cu.in
GTO clusters display MPH or Km/h got tons of parts from Down under (ebay) that are perfect fit for the GTO.. 2004 seems to be a match to the VX and 2005/2006 GTO a match to VY.

There's a bunch of online GM specific shops that have exploded diagrams and part numbers based on a generic year models, so you can just punch in the year model of a GTO and go from there. They will likely ship to you too. A lot of replaceable service parts and consumables will be the same or similar to the Chvrolet Caprice and Chevrolet Lumina.

you got similar site for the holden cars to find the part # from the VY or the monaro australian GM part #? I realized that even if identical to the USA parts carry a different number
for example : 2004 GTO brake booster Gm# 92108390 identical to GM # 92104795 for a VT
i traced and they are the same because it is the same AC Delco part # 178-0715
2005/2006 GTO: brake booster assembly 9217294 https://www.gmpartsonline.net/oem-parts/gm-booster-assembly-92171294
ac delco 178-0703 same part GM for Holden 92121741 or 92171295

Unfortunately not. The independent parts supply chain and automotive info available to customers for the US is infinitely better than Australia.
