my mates use Toluene in the cars as a octane booster when they are going on a dyno and at the drags. if you don't know what Toluene is a common solvent, able to dissolve: paints, paint thinners, silicone sealants. Toluene can be used as an octane booster in gasoline fuels used in internal combustion engines. Toluene at 86% by volume fueled all the turbo Formula 1 teams in the 1980s.

i think it is still used in fuel today, or atleast was till very recently, something like 0.5 or 1% by volume. used as an octane booster in leadfree fuel. it's also a cancer causing agent from memory.
