vs 1997 Esteem Series ll
Hi I own a vs commodore 97 v6 auto ,,I ve had her for over 6 years 2nd Female owner ,
color , panther green mica ,in reasonable condition body wise but motor has seen better days ,
when I drove her home first time she over heated on me I was so pissed off but the deal was done .
now 6 yrs on ,shes looked after me well but I have neglected her a little,
but replaced almost everything but the motor itself
im not that financial this side of xmas so im limited in what options I have,
yes im attached to my car otherwise I would of sold her long ago ,
ive just payed the next 3 months rego ,
I still drive her everyday but since about last 3/4 mths she cuts out on me as soon as I take any pressure off the accelerator just stalls ,dead .starts after a few attempts again and labors like its choking ,shuddering ,all under 80 kms after that shes smooth as ,ive noticed a white color on my oil cap underside ,so that pretty much tells me im screwed .
should I pay someone to put a reconditioned motor in ? or is it not worth the bullshit ?
thanks for reading guys .

If you replace the engine cost wise a reco is just way to expensive these days. A good SH engine would be the go. If you have white under the oil cap it could be te manifold gaskets. More common than leaking head gaskets.

thankyou for that !, being a female im still learning ;)
,its got a high whining noise as it accelerates faster too ,
not the best at explaining the noise but it wasn't there 4 months ago
it uses a lot of fuel and water, the revs are always under 1000 waiting at at the lights .
so with the manifold gaskets, are they an easier fix ? cheers

Yeah easy job about 4-5hrs. About 1.5hrs of that is cleaning up the parts.

whining noise could be a pulley or power steering is it leaking any fluids should give it a good service, oil change , new plugs, leads oil, fuel and air filters

VX II Acclaim Wagon.
Don't jump to conclusion of needing a whole nother engine.
Check into inlet manifold gasket as above.
Would explain the major problems.

List out what you've replaced, some of it sounds like it could be down to sensor issues. Also post pics of the oil and coolant.

How many ks has she done and have you done a compression test. If the motor is well worn then a low k replacement engine would be the way to go, strip the entire second engine down replace all the gaskets and put all your good newer goodies on the second engine and slap her back in.
