hey man
depending on the condition of your shocks, go for a full shock/springs swap. my factory rears are on the way out, so ill use them for a bit. It will save you labour if you get new shocks with new springs, but it will cost you a bucket more. get quotes for both springs/shocks and springs and shocks seperately and weigh it up.
But one thing. GET A CAMBER KIT! unless youve got a VXII. then youre just plain lucky.
with bigger wheels you still wont need to roll the guards, as long as the offset of the new wheels are right. my original 16s that came when i bought the car scrubbed like crazy when i lowered it, but the new wheels clear no worries. it was the offset that was wrong. (by about -10mm)
commodore offset should be +38-40mm.
other than that it was easy.
to give you an idea i got 2.5 inch lower springs and a camber kit fitted for $880 by pedders. Ive heard mixed reviews about them, but the Canberra pedders seem pretty good. just check around your area and ask people who have had their car lowered where they went and did it give them any grief.
hope that helps
