Mysterious Plug In Boot VY

So while I was looking for the trailer plug harness near the RH taillight, I also came across a plug a bit further back and I'm not sure what it is. Nothing is plugged into it and never has been, anyone know?

Just orange and brown, I guess could be. My car didn't come with a spoiler so it has no 3rd brake light, so that would make sense

Orange will be 12v
Brown could be earth or could be interior lighting. Also brown maybe the brake colour too.

If I get a chance and can have a look at the factory wiring diagrams, I’ll have a look.

The VF has a 2 pin plug associated with the trailer harness but in that case one wire is blue and goes to pin #5 of the flat 7 pin trailer connector while the other wire is purple and white and is the stop signal which comes from the BCM.

In the case of the VF this 2 pin connector (which Holden keeps changing the shape of) is used for connecting an electric trailer brake controller to the car… but Holden doesn’t make the trailer connector available…

In your case the wire colours are different but it should be an easy test to see if you have continuity between one of the mystery connector pins and pin #5 of your trailer connector. If so, the mystery connector is for use with an electric trailer brake controller… If not, checking a factory wiring diagram should have it sorted.

I looked into this for my VF when I wanted a non intrusive hard wired solution for my CTek battery charger which I document over some pages of this thread starting at this post. (I’ve since fixed the death lead by adding an inline fuse but still to source the mating connector).

Trawling VY diagrams.
It’s not shown in the harness diagrams in the boot.

There is orange with white stripe in the exterior lighting circuits. Also brown and brown with white stripe.

OG/WH is 12v constant.
Brown should be park lights or interior lighting.

The plug to the boot light is different though, so that’s not it.


I’m thinking maybe rear 12v socket.
