hey, i'm a newby to forums, but just bought a vz ss 5.7 and need some thoughts on some mods i'm planning on doing before i leap into it, its gonna be a daily driven car, and the cops round here are pretty full on!
plans are as follows:
Di Filippo 1 3/4" longs with 3" collectors, 4" ballistic cats with 3" ends, custom (from local specialist) twin 2 1/2" cat back with mufflers.
Dus otr
larger throttle body (unsure of size and type?)
custom (not mail order) mafless tune. (unsure of where but have a couple in mind).

thats just for the beginning. i eventually want to open her up and add larger cam, valve springs etc. so i guess what im asking is if im on the right track?

your on the right track, but i would really think about what you wanna achieve out of it what kinda power you want etc, you dont wanna start buying things now, then later down the track you have to change it again to suit the other part...if your gonna do something do it in one hit..if its gonna take you another month to get the cash then so be it..you only wanna do it once, thats my advice

like me for instance wanted something different, wanted power yeh took me like 6 months to get the cash (6 months in a stock v8 isnt fun :() but doing this ls3 conversion next week is going to be insane :)

Welcome impuls1 you won't be able to change your throttlebody due to it being Drive by Wire (Electric) unless you change your manifold

Yeah as dijm8 said, youre on the right track. Probably want to think about what you want. Everyone screams black and blue if you dont have 4 into 1's but Tri Y's are great for street driving. Low down power and torque whereas the 4 into 1's really come into their own at higher RPM. So if youre going to be doing mostly street driving and dont really care about top end but want that low down kick, consider a good set of Tri Y's. You will suffer on the dyno...but the dyno means squat.

The DUS OTR is in my opinion (perhaps biased if you look at mine :p) the best OTR on the market. Especially if you have the Gestapo in your state. They look stock, they look great and they perform great.

Sounds like you're on the ball, but if you're contemplating playing with big cams for big power I suggest twin 3". I'm with Grennan on the OTR - It looks awesome and performs great too. If the cops are picky about this sort of stuff you can have it painted by Duspeed in satin black so it matches in with the stock plastic colours.

thanks for the imput guys, didnt know about the throttle body, is the stock one good enough?. yeah i love the factory look of the Dus otr, was thinking of getting it painted Impulse blue to match.
The cam wasnt gonna come until later and was only thinking of a baby 220/220 112 comp cam, i've heard they can pull some good figures from these without being too over-the-top.
i was thinking about a twin 3" but wasnt too sure how LOUD it would be, and was told that a twin 2 1/2 inch would be sufficient for a shiteload of power unless i went F/I?? The other thing i wasnt so sure about was the 1 3/4" headers, are they big enough or should i go 1 5/8"? And from what i have seen the Di Fillipo longs produce more torque down low than most tri y's (please corrrect me if i'm wrong).
i guess i should mention my ultimate outcome...i want the car to remain streetable with a sporty (not bling) look, have a nice deep sound (not sprint car), be able to handle very well for track days at mallala, be competitive for race ya mates down local 1/8mile and be reliable and fuel efficient enough to take on trips.
I know thats alot to ask but i think its achievable to get a happy medium. well i'm gonna try anyway.
i'm gonna get coil overs too, cheaper than i thought (pedders or tein), a whiteline adjustable sway bar and bush kit.
and to top it off a set of the new 19" HDT aero's. (polished not white).
give opinions please, i appreciate all the help. exhaust is first on the list as the previous owner had no effin idea!

I have the 220/220 @ 112 in my VZ with difillipo 1 3/4 with highflows and a twin 3in it sounds fantastic
If your gonna go with a cam especially I would go with the 4-1 1 3/4
I had a twin 2.5 then went to twin 3in and there was very minimal difference in noise level this is because both exhausts retained the rear muffler

Also get an 25% underdriven pulley and some diff gears

you'll be able to change the T/B to the older gen III with with cable but you have to change the wiring, (mine is getting changed next week) otherwise im sure u can port out your original if you don't want to

yeh with that cam ive seen a few ppl make around the 290rwkw figure for such a baby cam it can pull quite well

cheers guys,
sorry about the delayed responses but im on night shift.
so, Munz, why did you end up going to 3"? was it because of the cam? and have you got the full Di Filppo system, if not what have you got (mufflers etc)? as looking at 3.9s in the diff, heard thats a pretty 'all-round' way to go? undecided on the underdrive, you may have to sell me on that one a bit more, is it neeed with a cam install? i guess i just wanna keep the power flowing to the things that need it, i live in a pretty small town so the car will be doing a fair bit of stop/start driving, will i end up with flat battery etc?
Dijm8, dont wanna go cable as i think it would be taking a step backwards in the technology department. unless it provides a substantial difference to throttle response....whats the reason for you going the older style and what sort of price are you looking at? also, since your in Adelaide, where do you go to get your tune??
thanks again for the help guys,

i would say goin back to the wire is better control for your foot, and ur not so much relying on electronics doing it for you, much more predictable, from going from cable to electronic back to cable you dont really get that lag either, i do all my work through zelijko automotive down at lonsdale which is probs abit of a distance for ya
