need help on XR6T BA auto trans not engagin.

haha yeah, teh is "the" but i somehow always type it that way its annoying, i know lol

anyway the thing is me mate owned it for 11 months and the only problem it gave him was the trans cooler in the radiator busting sending coolent through the trans etc, so that got replaced with secondhand one and new radiator that RACQ supplied (radiator and trans) something about racq will not fit any parts that have been supplied by the customer due to liability insurance or some ****. Also in the time my mate owned it i did all the work on it for him (service it and check it over) so its just luck of the draw i guess and for 5k u cant complain lol

but i know this car is not a lemon, its had a good life by my mate and the previous owner took real good care of it. **** happens, im hoping its the converter as when u push the car it starts to engage then as soon as you rev it a little it disengaed, anyway will see what the say tommorow lol

as far as i know the trans that is in it now was from a BF with 57 000ish k's and just had a service before the BF was writen off at the arse end (didnt affect the trans though) and they flushed the coller lines and replaced the radiator with a brand new one cost 2200 all up.

i have the origninal trans that got water in it in my garage as me mate kept it for parts etc, still ran ok just had coolent in it and was recmomende to change it

HOWEVER on the recipt it said it was toped up with 2 liters of oil, sooo maybe they didnt flush the converter??? im not sure

A flush and fill from empty (incl converter) on a ZF will use around 20lt's.

hmmm i read in the manual that these box's take around 10 liters from empty including the converter, like i said the oils perfect, nice and red not even a sighn of burt looking or burnt smell


i did jack the rear end up and turn wheel buy hand, thats allot harder to do then my VS, it took some strength to move the wheels but they both moved the same way (LSD) and so did the drive shaft sooo yeh

well took it back, they said its got a 60day guarantee which its only been like a monthish, anyway said there was **** cloging the filter and said it was clutch material and metal shaveings which is normal.....wtf?? how is that normal, also went on to say that its been driven hard since they installed the gearbox and he doesnt know whether he is gonna charge me for all this work yet as he should, now i can tell you for sure that it has not been driven hard since then, my mate drove it sensibly and so did i!!! i drive my vs commodore with the original stock auto gearbox a hell of allot harder for the last 4 years and the box is fine, he said that when they installed the gear box the filter was fine and oil was fine, but now its stuffed, ok for 1 they never droped the pan when they installed it they just checked the oil and toped it up as apparantly it was serviced before the car was wrecked.

then he said its fine now and they are just waiting to test drive it, so i waited alll day for a call, in the end i called them, he said its driveing fine and good, then in same sentence says its not going into 3rd gear apparantly,,,,,im thinking how tha **** is it driving fine BUT not going into third gear.....so inotherwords its ******??? not driving fine, then he says that it may sort itself out and come good....******* hell this guy shouldnt be near cars!!! and he owns the place

anyway he said he will have to figure out if its going to be covered under the 60day warrenty in morning, ******* better be

i alsoo got some advice from a auto specialist and he said it sounds like the box that they installed has had water in it aswell in the past or they dont know wtf they are doing and to get them to fix it as it should have lasted a hell of allot longer then that lol

also the fact that i checked the oil the day that they came and picked it up and it was a nice red colour with no sighn of burnt smell or looking and he says the oils burnt......lol ########, also wouldnt tell me where they got teh replacement box from as he doesnt know where they got it from, and also spoke to me like i dont know **** about cars
