I would say the engine mounts are sagged, but I am surprised the Lukey ones don't fit. Physically, the VT and VS engines and gearboxes are the same so it shouldn't be an issue. I would try another mechanic or better yet, go to an exhaust shop.

Yeah it is an exhaust shop sorry that also does other mechanical work. I first thought it could engine mounts at fault too, but I don't know how to check this, but surely the guy doing it should have checked right? How do I check btw? Will I feel it when i drive, cause it drives fine no shudders or anything.
If they are at fault I'll take the car elsewhere.
Thanks

Look under the front of the car and see where the sump is in relation to the cross member, there should be about a 10 -15mm gap. If the sump is down level with the cross member the mounts are sagged.

I'm also having problems with finding a decent set of extractors for my 98 SIII Caprice. I'm after a set of extractors for an L67 preferably Pacemakers with 1 3/4in. primaries that collect into 2 1/2in. secondaries with a final collector of 3 6/8in. I am trying to avoid having to get the extractors fabricated.

I have phoned the major extractor makers like Pacemaker, Genie, HM Headers and even Castlemaine Exhaust but no one makes them off the shelf in this size for any VS V6 models. The major extractor makers do make them in this size for VT onwards with Ecotec NA and L67.

It is hard trying to find information to even see if VS V6 extractors for SI and SII will fit onto the SIII Caprices and Statesmans due to the SIII's having a VT engine and box from factory. I suppose the SIII utes would also have the same VT V6 engines as they were made up until 2000 or 2001 until the VU rolled out.

Does anyone know if the VS and VT Ecotec engines and auto's are the same externally or are the differences internal only?

Also does anyone know if VS Ecotec n/aspirated extractors fit onto VS L67 supercharged engines. Are the extractors flanges the same for both engines?

And finally should VS sedan, wagon and ute V6 extractors fit into the Caprice and Statesman as i think that the engine bays and front end dimensions would be the same across the range.

They changed the bell housing, it isn't bigger but it is 'full circle'. Series 3 utes and Statesmans are the only ones with this bell housing.

The engine and gear boxes are physically the same, the VT had the full circle bell housing. The only thing I can suggest is try a set of VT headers. Although where they go around the rack is different too.

Supposing that if i did purchase the VT extractors you would think that they should fit from the head and down through to at least half way of the secondary pipes and if it's just part of the secondary pipes or the end collector that is the problem i wonder if it would be cheaper and/or quicker for an exhaust specialist to modify the section that is effected than to have a set of extractors fabricated.

the fit bewteen the head and the chassis rail is totally different between VT and VS chassis on the drivers side so VT definately won't fit.
No one makes 1 3/4" primaries to fit any the ecotec/L67 into r pre VT chassis.
Difilippo do the largest overall combo, having 1 5/8 tuned length primaries with full 2 1/2 secondaries.

Interesting topic, thanks for the heads up. I was already on the fence about fitting headers to my series III so now I wont bother.
cheers

Did we find anything fellas? Any that fit series III Statesman V6? Or is a slight dent enough to clear the bellhousing?
cheers
