NO REAR SPOILER on VX SS commodore - is it legal?

My misses was pulled over this morning and the copper said its $117 dollar fine for not having a rear spoiler with brake light WTF??

It'd be no different than a standard commodore wouldn't it? Anyway she was let of the fine but surely this is complete BS

Nope. Models without a rear spoiler have a brake light on the parcel shelf. With out the spoiler you will need to put it in.

Agree. If the rear spoiler has a brake light, it must function.
If the spoiler doesn't have a brake light, it must not impede the view of the parcel shelf brake light.

Wraith is 100% correct

From your post I take it your VX has no rear spoiler
If you have the factory spoiler fitted that has the brake light it must be working
If you removed the spoiler or never had one fitted the brake light on the parcel shelf must be working
It is not an offence to not have "a rear spoiler with a brake light fitted on a VX commodore"

Yup VX SS came out with 3 brake lights, 2 tail lights and 1 in the spoiler, ALL VX SS's came with the spoiler with the LED strip brake light as standard.

Removing the spoiler means you get fined for not having the 3rd brake light.

You can't just whack one in the standard place behind the rear window either because the rear window glass is different, the section where the light would shine through is blacked out, you have to remove the rear window to scrap it off or just replace the whole thing with the proper rear screen.

Car came out with 3 brake lights, it needs to retain 3 functional brake lights.
