not getting 12v to coil

I installed a electric distributor and as the HQ has a resistor wire I used a relay to send 12v but it still only send 7-9v, some say I can just put a pice of wire from the pink to the yellow at the ignition switch?

sometime with these older cars its the ignition that's faulty seen it quite a bit in my younger days you can run a new wire straight from the ignition
