In my VS ecotec I use penrite HPR 15, which is a semi synthetic 15W - 60 oil. This oil stays a bit thicker than the 20W - 50 oil at highter temperatures for better protection in the hot aussie summers. Its also a bit thinner at cold startup than the recommended 20W - 50 oil,so the oil flows up into the engine easier and quicker when its first started from cold.Around 90% of engine wear occurs at cold startup.I change my oil and filter every 5000 k's.My engine has done 150,000 km now.
