VP Authenticity.jpgG'day Gents,

I recently received my vehicle's original build specifications from Holden and am at a loss as to what "Merchandised PKG Holdens Senator (XW5)" means. I have the code chart but XW5 is listed as "unspecified".
I've attached the letter, but if it doesn't show up the information they gave me was:

MODEL: 1992 VP Commodore Executive Sedan (8VK19)
ENGINE: V8 5.0L PET E.F.I (LB9)
ENGINE NUMBER: VU603870
STEERING: Power Steering, Non-Variable (N40)
TRANSMISSION: 4 Speed Automatic HMD (MD8)
AXLE: 3.08:1 Ratio Positraction Limited Slip (GU4-G80)
AIRCON: HVAC System (C60)
PRODUCTION DATE: 30/09/1991
TRIM: Interior – Blue (23I)
Exterior – Alaskan (1J064)
PRODUCTION OPTION: Power Windows (A32)
Roof Rail, Chrome (V5G)
Merchandised PKG Holdens Senator (XW5)

Any ideas as to what the XW5 means?

Thank you in advance, much appreciated

Not even Holden seem to know. This is a copy & paste from an email I received from them this morning:

"Thank you for contacting Holden Customer Care. The reference number for your correspondence is 12345678.

One of our Customer Care Specialists will be in contact with you after performing a preliminary investigation of the meaning of Merchandised PKG Holdens Senator (XW5)."

XW5 was the option code for the outback pack (heavy duty suspension etc) in the 70's.

yeah mate, right it was the outback pack right up to the VK. On the VP it was renamed to the "Senator" pack, which is unrelated to the HSV Senator for that extra confusion. Holden will hopefully get back to me this week and reveal the mystery.. this is getting rather annoying.

Does it have a metallic paint finish or a two tone?

Nah mate, plain Alaskan white Executive... these are the charts I was looking at. Some list XW5 as "no information" while others just skip it completely.

Finally got a call back from Holden regarding the XW5 option on a VP. It was a "heavy duty option for the Automatic Transmission"... he couldn't explain it further, but it is quite possible that it was the large tranny cooler which my vehicle's fitted with.
